I don't understand how you as the narrator of that story can have even an ounce of partiality towards the group.

If the last guy was in on the robbery, why would only one robber wear a mask, and not him? How many times have you seen robber gangs where half of them wear masks and the rest don't? Never, because it doesn't happen, they either want to hide their identity or aren't smart enough to know to do it, especially with what you describe as being a well planned heist.
